A beautiful post; sad, but hopeful. Looking back and forward in equal measure. I’ve been reading your columns for more than 20 years, and never thought to comment before (though I shared a lot). You have the strength, courage, and wisdom of a Biblical matriarch.
Phyllis, you were born with good genes and sturdy mental health. I remember as a little girl sitting on the sidelines while my grandparents played contract bridge with their cronies. My grandmother was a bridge wizard and a force to be reckoned with, but now that I am my self a grandmother, I can develop the kinds of important feminist supportive relationships with my grandchildren. Plus ca change la plus ca reste la meme chose....
You have written about something that is on the mind of all seniors. Getting old sucks, even if you remain relatively functional. I have always enjoyed your writing, but this one really spoke to me. It was eloquent and elegant. I renew my invitation to take you out to lunch if you are ever in Israel. Shabbat shalom.
Thanks again for a great newsletter.. I enjoy them all.. My action, besides a few donations , is to exponentially help the world by helping guide my 8 grandkids into being thoughtful, hardworking and contented adults.. Taking them for walks in the woods and teaching them about Mother Nature helps..
Some massively brave women. They put the so-called western feminists to shame

I agree with you.
Same here.
