It began with the election of Obama. A scintilla of criticism became an act of blasphemy, heresy, treason predicated on racism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, far-right conspiracy theory, White Supremacy, Jewish supremacy, white Christian Nationalism, Zionist dual-loyalty, antisemitism, pro-segregation, right-wing extremism, birtherism, Jim Crow, nativism, wanting to wheel grandma off a cliff, Nazism, Confederate,pro-apartheid, not paying your fair share, gun nut, slavery enthusiast…Calling someone an antisemite and a Zionist Supremacist was special. Calling someone a Jim Crow racist who’s son in law isn’t white, a xenophobe who’s family were legal immigrants who fled oppression, not paying their fair share when they pay more in taxes than 80% of America and aren’t close to millionaire status, right wing extremist when they’re liberal in the classic civil libertarian leaning , Islamophobic when they were in their client’s NYC 90th floor penthouse watching planes crash into the WTC Towers, people being chased by enormous balls of fire, holding hands as jumping from blown out windows and then seeing the Towers implode and the gleeful cheers of “ Death To America”, “ Death To The Jews” and a President who hated Israel, smeared Christian Americans “ with their Bibles and guns”, called the Ft Hood Massacre “ Workplace Violence”, honored a deserter who hooked up with radical Islamists , converted to Islam and got his fellow troops killed , honored Mike Brown the thug who robbed a convenience store and knocked the tiny immigrant shopowner to the ground laughing before trying to wrest an officer’s gun from its holster to kill the cop and wound up getting shot and killed, blaming it on racism- resulting in burning down Ferguson and the ambush and slaughter of two cops sitting in separate parked cars, who entertained his old pal, Weather Underground bomber, Bill Ayres at the White House, was advised by frequent guest, race hustler antisemite Al Sharpton, was pictured in Islamic garb arm in arm with Farrakhan, attended the Church of God Damn America racist antisemite Rev Wright…to name a few of Obama’s list of creds.
That’s when it started. But nothing prepared me for what it metastasized into. Like neighbors, family members, friends dating back to Middle School, local shopkeepers not speaking to me or screaming at me and Jews marching with Jihadists.
Certainly, the notion that Trump’s election is a legitimate reason to feel personally endangered(well, the Khalils of our universities do have good reason) is act of self-dramatizing. And, as Pamela says, the most partisan Dems are freaking each out, spiking each other’s sense of fear and insult.
I passed a neighbor in the street a few weeks ago, asked him how he was doing. “As good as I can living in a dictatorship.” Okay.
I believe you're onto something with the meds. Meds combined with covid hysteria, and all the other hysteria pushed by the dems, has destroyed the possibility of rational discourse.
Meds (not limited to women--more women are probably on the prescription ones, though I know youngish-and Boomer men on them), which I would group with marijuana and booze as mind-altering substances. Men, I think, favor the pot and booze, as well as stimulants such as Ritalin which they may have been dosed with since childhood or could have picked up as a "nootropic" recommended by tech bros and human-optimizer fitness gurus.
Added to that our way-too-casual American behavior/dress standards and the anonymity of masks, coupled with grievance politics and rampant secularism--and people behave abominably.
I've been friends with a woman for over a decade. She has always known that she and I were on different ends of the political spectrum. It had never been a problem. She is very pro-European and anti-American. She was happy to be my friend while Biden was in offfice, but is now rude and dismissive because Trump is President. She likes me when her tribe rules but dislikes me when her tribe is on the ropes. Fair weather friend.
I am very grateful for your support of the book I worked on for 30 years. Sisterhood is powerful! I would also recommend to your readers your book, Woman's Inhumanity to Woman, which I pored over, underlined, and annotated since it first came out. As Goodreads says, "In a groundbreaking study, the author of Women and Madness explores the controversial issue of women's aggression toward one another, both at home and in the workplace, revealing how women whose longing for friendship, approval, and support is thwarted by dislike, mistrust, envy, and competition." I think we can all learn from you.
covid was just another excuse to be as nuts as they always were. i had a woman in a mask & plastic shield scream at me because my nose was not covered. she was like 20 ft away, standing in the open air. im sure she was a shrew @ home, & most likely worked for the public sector.
I have heard people explaining that no one should congregate, ever, for concerts or farmers' markets, or any social/official reason until Covid (and please insert whatever other communicable disease that could be named here) is gone. Basically, life is over because, otherwise, people living their lives and enjoying public spaces and communal events don't care about the poor souls who are homebound due to profoundly compromised immune systems. Some weird version of "solidarity," and nihilistic misanthropy whereby any other people that might be within 6 ft? 60 ft? are going to give you cooties and kill your sick loved one at home.
Note that there is/was a movement called "masks4all," or "masks4ever," or something like that, that organized all of these nutcases into a philosophical pressure group.
Had a similar experience with a plumber when I went with my sister to check on her home under construction. We walked through her home and when we came put the front door, he pulled up. He stayed about 20ft from us, wearing his mask, and asked if we had been in the house, and when we said yes, he replied he was told nobody would be there and he would now have to wait several hours until the air was clear. It brought out the nuts.
much of the time on forums for 20 yrs. then along came trump, they stepped up their game. FB can be a rage machine- after october 7th when posting "shabbat shalom" i was called a baby killer. (by a NY gay blackman, & several white bicoastal liberals). transislamophobic naziracistwho wants tokill 6million has been over used. you think? this is not new, for 1000s of years humans can easily be brainwashed to behave a certain way. easier to train a human than a circus animal. look for other social contagions.
So weird, because, by and large, it's Muslims who: hijack planes and kill all aboard (sometimes just the Jews), hijack cruise ships and kill the Jews, stab little girls at dance class or going to school (usually Jews when it's a school), blow up concerts, kill their co-workers in San Bernardino, open fire in gay nightclubs, detonate pressure cookers and marathons, drive cars into sidewalks at Christmas Markets or anywhere else, slice off the heads of Westerners, (esp. Jews). Jews and Christians do not do these things.
Well, I was “dissed” by a now former “friend” of 42 years because I voted for Trump. She excoriated me in all the ways that someone with TDS who could easily be on the panel of THE VIEW.
What I find as a major problem in our society and especially with people
Like this is their inability to tolerate frustration, change, transition, uncertainty, fear of loss of their comfort zone. None of this is easy; codling and lack of experiencing tough challenges contributes to this infirmity in our time. No wonder we can’t have productive civil conversations. How sad and cowardly that she couldn’t engage in a conversation with me. Politics over friendship…pathetic.
This reply is for all the women writing in on this topic.. I have had a friend for the last 25 years.. We were similar in many ways (we climbed kili together).. we would have great discussions about politics but laughed and remained friends.. When Hillary lost she knitted a pussy hat and marched in DC.. We stopped discussing politics.. Then when Trump ran this last time, she does not even respond to texts.. It is so sad because I admired and had fun for years as we are both adventurers.. She is a very bright girl but cannot stop herself from spewing out negatives about Republicans.. I figure it is overwhelming FEAR stuck in her brain.. Oh Well...
Loyalty to politicians and party-lines has become a religion for many.
Lots of weird saint-like imagery surrounding Obama, and to my chagrin, Ruth Bader Ginsburg; she was not the first woman on the Supreme Court so didn't know where the weird hagiographic stance came from. Have seen imagery with her within a golden nimbus and wearing a crown--now that is problematic for a lot of reasons, namely, that no one in our government is supposed to act like, or be considered, a king or queen.
see how jasmine crockett behaves during congressional hearings. she was trained by her handlers to to do raging ghetto speak. look @ rep al green. rage is either faux or more frightening when its real. when i mentioned forums (see my 1st comment), i was refering to expats living in mexico. when i talked about crime, i was told to go die. later more expats were assaulted or murdered. that same forum who banned me offered a crime section. there are subjects which people dance around. if you dont dance, you get rage. expect it, deñete or block from facebook or email.
Unfortunately, I have experienced this "unhinged" behavior.. It does disappoint me, but I can't fix people.. Frankly.. It began when Hillary lost .. But this recent D loss has magnified it.. And I don't discuss politics, but many acquaintances kinda guess what I believe.. My bottom line is that I actually feel sorry for people filled with such FEAR in life..And I live my life with GRATITUDE...
No thank God and I’m sorry you’re going through this. But I will only observe that most of the “bat shit” crazy (to use great Britishism) protesters seem to youngish women especially on college campuses. And not a few in Congress. I’ve been wondering why. There are certainly plenty of crazy men out there but in a different way than these “BSC” women.
Phyllis, I responded about our adult children not speaking to us for our politics. I also asked to email with you as I submitted your name to be a speaker at for the Women's Studies program at an university. You asked for my email, but my comments and email address seemed to have disappeared

You’re very welcome, Jill.
I think a lot of people are on Meds. I also think that many people, especially women. Are connected to Dems and they're freaking each other out.

I think it's the fallout from Covid. Anger, rudeness, selfishness seem the norm now. The social contract is dead.

Covid amplified these undesirable trends. No question.
I agree 100%. Nothing has ever been the same since Covid—and never will be again.

Yes, this is happening. I even spoke to my therapist about it and she says she hears these reports all the time.
